FIRST PETROL POWERED CAR

Although a lot of people think that Henry Ford introduced the first gasoline powered car actually the first petrol powered car was made in 1885 by Karl Benz.  This car only had three wheels and looked like an over sized tricycle, it could only hold two people.  Benz designed his 1 litre 1hp engine for the 3 wheeled car.  It had an electric ignition, differential gears, and it was water-cooled. Karl Benz’s car was first driven in Mannheim, Germany in 1885.  He was granted a patent for his petrol powered car on January 29, 1886 and he began selling this automobile in July 1886.
